Past Paper - Advancements in Hardware and Software

Improvements in the production processes in the music industry have drastically changed in recent years due to massive advancements in technology and software. The  use of technology within the music industry has been ground changing and has made huge steps forward making the sound quality even more enhanced and to make the whole music smooth and kinder on the ear.  The latest technology has an important link between technological creativity and art.  For example,  Max Matthew introduced the first digital synthesis in the year 1957-58 along with the Music I and Music II at Bell Labs. During the year 1970’s to 1977, music technology keeps on evolving to its most advanced form in year 1982, where the new Compact Disc system was introduced. Class Notes - Sound Analysis

Image
DIEGETIC SOUND This is when the source of sound is visible on screen or implied to be present in the scene like voices or sounds created by objects.  NON DEGETIC SOUND This is when the source of sound is not visible on the screen and hasn't been implied to be present like narrator's commentary or sound effects that have been added.  Non-Diegetic Sound Example from shuette on Vimeo . SYNCHRONOUS SOUND Synchronous sound is sound that is matched to certain movements occurring in the scene e.g when footsteps correspond to feet walking and  can be recorded on a tape or magnetic film.  it's recorded on a magnetic film then the synchronisation between the picture and sound has to be precise in order to match both at the same speed  to make it look realistic and synchronized. ASYNCHRONOUS SOUND Asynchronous sounds match the action being performed however is not precisely synchronised with the action. Asynchronous sou...

Class Notes - Editing and Representation

Image
What is transition of image and sound? A transition of sound is used to maintain the flow between two scenes and this is usually done by removing all background music from the scene and perhaps inserting music and fading it into the two merged scenes.  A transition of image is used when moving between two scenes and is usually faded out. There are many ways to do this depending on the atmosphere during the scenes.  Why is editing so important? Editing is important in filming as it helps the gentle and desecrate transition between shots and scenes become more perfect and less harsh. It can also benefit the actor/actress as if they don't get their lines correct then it can be cut out or shot again and merge in with the previous scene instead of having to shoot it all in one go. The differentiation between scenes can be obvious but gentle like going dead black at the end of one scene and fading from black in the second scene....

This can be used for dramatic effect and helps portray unease, disorientation, frantic or desperate action, intoxication, madness, etc. This image is taken from "Titanic." 3. LOW ANGLE -  This shows the subject from below, giving them the impression of being more powerful or dominant. This example is taken from "Matilda" from the view of Matilda.  MOVEMENT 1. PAN -  Moving  the camera  lens to one side or another . Look to your  left ,  then  look to your  right  - that's panning. 2. TILT -  Moving the cameras lens up or down  whi...
