The Secret - Costume

Image
As our storyline is based around a gay teenager we wanted to break the stereotype that has been created by society on the way homosexual men dress. Instead of having Will in stereotypical 'flamboyant' clothing we willl have him dressed in a modern teenagers everyday attire. This will consist of a hoodie and a pair of tracksuit bottoms, as this is a casual film based in Northern Ireland this is what teenagers would wear.  As this is set during the day, Taylor will be in his school shirt while the facetime call takes place. This emphasises the youth of the two boys as well as adding the modern twist on a typical romance film. Some images below are inspiring what our actors are going to wear.

The Secret - Mise en Scene

We are going to be filming during the day. This will mean we will be using natural lighting as the opening scene is done outside and the main scene is filmed in a bed room with big windows allowing for lots of light. This means it will look more natural and not overdone with the addition of false lighting as well as keeping natural, cool colours. The costumes that are used are also typical everyday modern teenage clothing. This helps create the feeling that they are just your every day people you would pass on the street, normalising these people and their relationships. We want their outfits to be non stereotypical of gay characters which is usually "flamboyant" clothing so by dressing Will in a hoodie and tracksuit bottoms doesn't make it obvious to the audience that he is infact hiding his sexuality.

The Secret - Radio Script

While researching clips for the radio part, We discovered that it was very difficult to find a clip that suited the part of the film what we needed it for. The clip we required had to include enough information that gave the audience clues that the story line was homophobia in such a short space of time. We decided to use our initiative and take control of the situation by creating our own script so it suited the plot and the time allocation perfectly. We recored the script using Voice Memo on my iPhone and airdropped them onto the computer for editting. During editing we will add the radio styled effect to make it more realisitic. The script is featured below. Radio Presenter:  That was cover of Everybody Talks by The Neon Trees here on RTE FM. Radio Presenter:  So today we have Sinn Fein's Michelle O'Neill here to discuss her views on DUP's recent promise to block same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland.  Radio Presenter:  So Michelle, what do you think about ...

The Secret - Radio Clips

Image
Today, We spent the class watching clips on Youtube of Northern Irish politicans talking about Gay marriage and Equality and their opinions. The clips I found were very interesting to watch and helped us come to a decision as to what clip we are going to use. We used inspiration from politicans like Iris Robinson and Arlene Foster who have strong views on this issue.  We came across a debate on the Nolan show and were trying to see if we could weave this into our script but decided it probably wouldn't work particularly well. However we then came across another clip which was taken when the Ashers Bakery case was active. We thought this would be a good clip to play in the background as it is so recent and therefore making it a powerful piece to use. We discussed using a heated discussion clip like Stephen Nolan or using a radio clip from a big incident like the Asher's Bakery case or Iris Robinson's homophobic comments. This will give the character of Will's mother ...
