The Secret - Radio Clips

Today, We spent the class watching clips on Youtube of Northern Irish politicans talking about Gay marriage and Equality and their opinions. The clips I found were very interesting to watch and helped us come to a decision as to what clip we are going to use. We used inspiration from politicans like Iris Robinson and Arlene Foster who have strong views on this issue.

We came across a debate on the Nolan show and were trying to see if we could weave this into our script but decided it probably wouldn't work particularly well. However we then came across another clip which was taken when the Ashers Bakery case was active. We thought this would be a good clip to play in the background as it is so recent and therefore making it a powerful piece to use.

We discussed using a heated discussion clip like Stephen Nolan or using a radio clip from a big incident like the Asher's Bakery case or Iris Robinson's homophobic comments. This will give the character of Will's mother a chance to show her own personal homophobic views and slowly introduce the storyline.

Here is some of the links of the clips we researched.

A transition of sound is used to maintain the flow between two scenes and this is usually done by removing all background music from the scene and perhaps inserting music and fading it into the two merged scenes.  A transition of image is used when moving between two scenes and is usually faded out. There are many ways to do this depending on the atmosphere during the scenes.  Why is editing so important? It can also benefit the actor/actress as if they don't get their lines correct then it can be cut out or shot again and merge in with the previous scene instead of having to shoot it all in one go. The differentiation between scenes can be obvious but gentle like going dead black at the end of one scene and fading from black in the second scene....

The Secret - Equipment

Unfortunately when we went to start gathering equipment for filming we discovered there weren't any working tripods so we had to go and buy our own. We also invested in a new SD card - SanDisk 32GB to film with.  Here are the links on the Argos website to the items we purchased. The Secret - Titles Inspiration

Image
We decidede that we wanted to create a title scene that would tie in with the teen romance feel. By doing this we researched a few different films and TV series and found a few that were along the lines of what we were thinking for our film. We took inspiration from the 'Please Like Me' We also took inspiration from a Miley Cyrus film called 'LOL'.
