The Secret - Music Research

When trying to decide on what music we were going to use, we decided to create a cover of a song by an artist that openly gay and this would create a subtle, subconscious message to the audience about the theme of the film. Some of our inspirations are...

 ELTON JOHN
  • Philidelphia Freedom
  • I'm still standing
  • Rocket Man
QUEEN
  • Don't stop me now
  • Another one bites the dust
  • I want to break free
SAM SMITH
  • Money on my mind
  • Like I can
YEARS AND YEARS
  • Shine
  • Desire
  • Eyes shut
MIKA
  • Grace Kelly
  • Lollipop
  • Popular Song
THE NEON TREES
  • Everybody talks
  • Animal

We wanted to keep the introduction music happy and upbeat to keep with the theme of teen romance - We want our character to appear as happy and upbeat as the music protrays him to be and the music replicate how he feels on the inside despite the circumstances he is facing.

During the research of music we discover a Copyright issue that resulted in us coming to a decision to cover a song ourselves using Garageband.

During researching we found covers of Elton John's iconic 'Tiny Dancer' that we are taking inspiration from. This version is an acoustic version which is a lot more delicate and gentle compared to the original. We feel that this create the sombre attitude that leads us on to the following scene.

For the music at the beginning of the film we deciced to use the upbeat song 'Everybody talks' by the Neon Trees. We feel that this song is the best option we have, as if you listen closely, the lyrics link very closely to how we imagine Will to be feeling. As well as this, the group Neon Trees lead singer is openly a member of the LGBT community.
This is a version Eimir took inspirtation from using Garageband.

The cover will be played during the first 30 seconds of the opening credits and will be merged with the radio clip which I recorded.

Class Notes - Editing and Representation

What is transition of image and sound? A transition of sound is used to maintain the flow between two scenes and this is usually done by removing all background music from the scene and perhaps inserting music and fading it into the two merged scenes.  A transition of image is used when moving between two scenes and is usually faded out. There are many ways to do this depending on the atmosphere during the scenes.  Why is editing so important? Editing is important in filming as it helps the gentle and desecrate transition between shots and scenes become more perfect and less harsh. It can also benefit the actor/actress as if they don't get their lines correct then it can be cut out or shot again and merge in with the previous scene instead of having to shoot it all in one go. The differentiation between scenes can be obvious but gentle like going dead black at the end of one scene and fading from black in the second scene....

The Secret - Equipment

Unfortunately when we went to start gathering equipment for filming we discovered there weren't any working tripods so we had to go and buy our own. We also invested in a new SD card - SanDisk 32GB to film with.  Here are the links on the Argos website to the items we purchased.
