Past Paper - Advancements in Hardware and Software
Improvements in the production processes in the music industry have drastically changed in recent years due to massive advancements in technology and software. The use of technology within the music industry has been ground changing and has made huge steps forward making the sound quality even more enhanced and to make the whole music smooth and kinder on the ear.
The latest technology has an important link between technological creativity and art.
For example, Max Matthew introduced the first digital synthesis in the year 1957-58 along with the Music I and Music II at Bell Labs. During the year 1970’s to 1977, music technology keeps on evolving to its most advanced form in year 1982, where the new Compact Disc system was introduced. With the fast paced advance of the music technology industry, people have used a MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), rolling to the Cmix, Csound, High quality digital audio work stations for PCs or personal computers until the early years in 1990s using digital multi-track systems.
Two decades of technological advances in the music industry 1980's 1990 s. In the 1980s music technology saw huge changes. Live music technology didn’t change a lot during this time, but the music recording process suffered one of the biggest changes in the history, the transition from analogue to digital. The availability of music from DJs and home made producers mixing their own music has created a massive new trend in society today and this is where the money is made. People can become their own producers in the comfort of their own homes by using special software and hardware on their phones and computers.
For example in school we produced our own music using software called Sibelius and Audacity and using a keyboard to input notes and selecting instruments.
The advancements in hardware has enabled people to create music they love with minimal costs and maximum rewards and success. By uploading it on things like Soundcloud, small producers can help the industry grow and improve and creating more genres or making small unknown genres larger thus creating more awareness about electronic music.
I feel that the advancements in technology and software had made a massive improvement in the production industry as people don't need to have any qualifications or degrees but just a genuine interest in music and want to create their own sound and therefore basically becoming a producer themselves.

Fairly good Maeve, but needed to see more exploration and analysis if the materials and case studies I have given you, along with your own research into artists. I'd definitely recommend re-editing this one to improve. Think about prosumerism, amateurism, democratisation of creativity, empowering artists etc etc
